What Is a Signature Resizer?
A signature resizer is an online utility engineered to prepare handwritten signatures for official digital submissions. When candidates snap a picture of their signature on paper using a smartphone, the resulting file is usually a multi-megabyte image (2 MB to 8 MB) with uneven lighting, high pixel counts (such as 4000×3000 pixels), and wide empty margins.
Online application systems for competitive exams and government portals enforce strict constraints. They reject files that exceed maximum file size ceilings (like 20 KB or 50 KB), fail minimum thresholds (like 10 KB), or violate specified aspect ratios. A signature resizer bridges this gap by cropping out surrounding white space, scaling width and height to required pixel dimensions, and applying smart JPEG quantization to match the exact KB window while keeping pen strokes legible.
How to Resize a Signature Online
Resizing your signature takes less than thirty seconds with our interactive web tool. Follow these sequential steps:
Upload Signature
Drag and drop or select your JPG or PNG image of your handwritten signature from your phone or PC.
Choose Exam / Size
Select a preset (SSC, RRB, GDS) or enter custom width, height, and target KB bounds.
Crop & Clean Ink
Position the crop box tightly around your signature. Toggle the shadow cleaner to whiten background paper.
Preview & Download
Inspect the live KB weight and dimension preview, then click download to save the compliant JPEG.
How to Compress Signature to Specific File Sizes (10KB, 20KB, 50KB)
Different exam portals enforce distinct file size boundaries. Understanding whether your application requires a range (e.g. 10–20 KB), an upper limit (e.g. under 20 KB), or a larger ceiling (e.g. under 50 KB) ensures you avoid automatic upload rejection.
How to Compress to 10KB
10 KB FocusWhen a portal enforces a strict minimum (such as "greater than 10 KB" for SSC or RRB), you must ensure compression doesn't undershoot into 7 KB or 8 KB. Use our preset to clamp the output between 11 KB and 18 KB so it satisfies the bottom threshold. If you need a standalone file compressor, check our MB to KB Compressor.
How to Resize to 20KB
20 KB LimitPortals like SSC, India Post GDS, and Sarathi Driving Licence mandate signatures under 20 KB. To resize to 20KB, crop excess border areas and set max KB to 20. The algorithm targets an optimal 14–18 KB output. You can also use our specialized Compress Image to 20KB tool for generic photos.
How to Resize to 50KB
50 KB CeilingPortals like UPSC, State PSC, and university entrance exams allow signatures up to 50 KB or 100 KB. Setting a 50KB ceiling gives maximum stroke fidelity and high resolution. For related document formatting, visit our Compress Image to 50KB page.
Online portals write file size rules in three distinct ways. Do not assume every application needs identical treatment:
Your file must be greater than 10.0 KB AND less than 20.0 KB. Files weighing 9.8 KB or 20.4 KB are automatically rejected. SSC and RRB use this rule.
Your file can be any size up to 20 KB (e.g. 8 KB, 14 KB, 19 KB). India Post GDS and PAN Card portals use upper ceiling limits.
No government portal demands an image to be mathematically 20,480 bytes exact. Staying comfortably within the permitted window (e.g. 14–18 KB) guarantees acceptance.
Signature Size in KB and Pixels Explained
Digital image specifications combine two independent factors: Pixel Resolution (canvas dimensions) and File Size in Kilobytes (compressed disk footprint). A signature can have large pixel dimensions (e.g. 600×200 px) but still weigh only 15 KB because binary JPEG quantization compresses the flat white background efficiently.
When an exam portal states both pixel dimensions (such as 140×60 px) and file size (under 20 KB), you must satisfy both conditions. Altering only file size while ignoring pixel dimensions will trigger an aspect ratio mismatch error on modern automated validation scripts.

Govt Exam ResizerHow to Create a Clear Digital Signature (Preparation Guide)
High-contrast optical scanning guarantees smooth automated document verification. Follow this 8-step preparation protocol:
- Use Plain White Paper: Always use unruled, bright white paper (such as standard 75–80 GSM printer paper). Never sign on lined, checkered, or ledger sheets.
- Sign in Dark Ink: Use a black ballpoint or fine roller pen. Black ink delivers maximum optical contrast against white paper with zero chromatic fringing.
- Sign in Fluid Cursive: Do not write your name in all capital letters (e.g.
RAHUL SHARMA). Portals reject block-letter signatures. - Capture Under Bright Lighting: Place the paper under direct overhead daylight or a bright LED desk lamp to avoid cast shadows from your smartphone or hands.
- Crop Unnecessary Space: In our resizer, frame the crop box tightly around your pen strokes to eliminate excess blank paper.
- Apply Contrast Cleanup: Enable the 'Shadow Cleaner & Ink Booster' filter to convert greyish paper tones to clean studio white.
- Match Portal Dimensions & KB: Select your target exam preset or input custom width, height, and KB values.
- Preview & Download: Verify the crispness of the signature and download your compliant JPEG file.
How to Resize Signature on Mobile (Android & iPhone)
You do not need Photoshop, complex desktop software, or third-party mobile apps to resize your signature. Our web application runs smoothly inside Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on any smartphone:

Common Signature Upload Errors and Solutions
Error: "File size must be between 10 KB and 20 KB"
Cause: Your file is either slightly below 10.0 KB (e.g. 9.4 KB) or slightly exceeds 20.0 KB (e.g. 20.6 KB).
Solution: Select the SSC preset in our tool which automatically targets 12 KB to 18 KB to keep the output securely within the valid range.
Error: "Invalid image dimensions or aspect ratio"
Cause: Uploading a square photo crop (1:1) when the portal requires a wide landscape crop (3:1 or 140×60 px).
Solution: Select the exact exam preset or enter requested pixel dimensions in Custom mode.
Error: "Signature is blurred / Low optical contrast"
Cause: Faint blue pen or grey smartphone camera shadow across the paper.
Solution: Retake photo under direct light using a black pen and toggle the 'Shadow Cleaner & Ink Booster' filter.
Error: "Invalid file format (Only .jpg / .jpeg allowed)"
Cause: Uploading a PNG, WEBP, or PDF file.
Solution: Our tool automatically exports compliant .jpg images regardless of what input image format you upload.
